Fraxel dual laser treatments restore aging and sun-damaged skin to its original youthful glow. Dr. Ahn and Rebecca Hoffey, RNFA from the Aesthetic Wellness Center were one of the first offices in New England to offer Fraxel dual laser treatments to their patients and have since performed thousands of Fraxel treatments on patients. They have also trained other doctors on how to perform the laser skin treatment.
The Fraxel Dual laser can treat a number of different areas including the face, neck, chest, arms and hands. Unlike other lasers with older technology, the Dual can treat multiple areas during a single session. Individuals may also choose to combine Fraxel laser treatments with facial plastic surgery. Fraxel Dual treatments on the facial skin at the conclusion of a face lift or mini lift can help improve the skin quality.
Fraxel Dual laser treatments have minimal discomfort in comparison to other laser skin treatments. Most Fraxel Dual laser patients undergo treatment with just topical numbing cream applied for an hour while others choose to undergo “Friendly Fraxel” treatments (see below). Typically patients will describe a hot and prickly sensation that only occurs during the treatment. Once the treatment is done there is no discomfort.
At the Aesthetic Wellness Center we ensure your Fraxel laser skin treatment is private, professional and personalized to your needs. Each treatment is customized based on your clinical needs, issues and skin type.
Because the Aesthetic Wellness Center has an accredited surgical suite, we can provide a level of anesthesia suited for the patient, ranging from topical numbing cream to intravenous sedation. While most patients feel that topical numbing cream is sufficient, some do not want to feel any sensation at all. For these individuals we have tailored a “Friendly” Fraxel Laser treatment that provides them the comfort they want.
Immediately after the fraxel laser treatment, the skin will feel a little warm. There is no need for pain medications. Makeup can be worn immediately after the treatment. You will be a little swollen and the skin will look a little browner, as if you have been in the sun.
Typically, over the course of the next 5 days, there is a variable degree of peeling, as if you have been in the sun without sun screen. There will be a mild to moderate amount of swelling as well. The peeling and swelling resolve after 4-5 days.
During the first 4-5 days after the treatment, most patients can be social, but are not planning on attending an important event.
The original Fraxel laser was developed by Dr. Rox Anderson at Mass. General Hospital and was called the Restore.
The Fraxel Restore laser was revolutionary in that it delivered thousands of microscopic points of laser contact on the skin surface that are separated from each other. The original laser used an Erbium laser. After several years, busy doctors performing the Fraxel Restore, including Dr. Ahn, recognized its limitations (having to perform the procedure multiple times to clear pigment) and recommended targeting multiple levels of the skin to achieve better results.
From this was borne the Fraxel Dual Laser. This upgrade involved adding a second laser (Thulium) that was very effective at removing brown pigment at a slightly more superficial level.
While most patients feel that topical numbing cream is sufficient, some do not want to feel any sensation at all. For those who would like to feel no discomfort, Fraxel treatments can be performed in our on site, private, accredited office-based surgical suite under intravenous sedation.
Because The Aesthetic Surgery Center is accredited by the Joint Commission (JCAHO), which is the accrediting agency for hospitals and outpatient surgical facilities, we are uniquely equipped to allow this superior level of care as compared to other doctors' offices.
