Fat transfer is generally associated with very little pain or discomfort.

For the fat transfer procedure, fat is first removed from the donor area with a technique similar to liposuction. Once removed, the fat is prepared and then injected with a needle into the recipient site.

The duration of fat transfer results can vary greatly from patient to patient. Most patients find the results to last an average of three to six months, though some patients have reports longer lasting results of a year or more.

Fat transfer, also referred to as fat injection, is a non-surgical procedure which can add volume to the lips and fill in wrinkles, lines, skin depressions and some types of scars. The fat transfer process removes fat from one area of the body such as the abdomen and then transfers it to the treatment area.

Under normal conditions, a local anesthetic may be used on both the donor and recipient sites.

Fat transfer often requires overfilling of the recipient area which may make the treated area appear swollen right after the procedure. Bruising or redness may also occur in both the donor and recipient sites.
