Q-What is revision rhinoplasty? A-Revision rhinoplasty is a surgical procedure which can improve the appearance and/or function of the nose following previous rhinoplasty surgery. The procedure may also be referred to as secondary or tertiary rhinoplasty.

A-Individuals looking to improve the appearance and/or function of the nose after undergoing a prior rhinoplasty procedure may be good candidates for revision rhinoplasty. Patients considering revision rhinoplasty should have realistic expectations and be in good health.
Q-What will happen during a consultation for revision rhinoplasty? A- During the consultation for revision rhinoplasty, Dr. Ahn will discuss the available treatment options including the benefits and the expected outcomes. He will take your skin type, ethnic background and age into consideration when discussing the surgery and be sure to answer any questions or concerns that you may have. Your nose will be examined and the doctor will explain how it can be reshaped by sculpting the nasal structures. To show you the potential results, photographs will be taken and used with the computer imaging system.
Q-How is revision rhinoplasty performed? A-Revision rhinoplasty is performed through small incisions located on the inside of the nostrils and at the base of the nose. Once the incisions are made, different techniques may be used. Dr. Ahn may reposition the underlying cartilage or replace missing structures. Once the desired shape is achieved, the incisions are closed.
Q-Where are the incisions made for revision rhinoplasty? A-For revision rhinoplasty, Dr. Ahn makes the incisions on the inside of the nostrils and at the base of the nose.
Q-Does revision rhinoplasty leave scars? A-The incisions made during the revision rhinoplasty procedure do result in scars. Those located on the inside of the nostrils are not visible while those located at the base of the nose are barely visible as they are in a well-concealed location.
Q-Do patients experience much pain after undergoing revision rhinoplasty? A-Revision rhinoplasty procedures tend to involve less pain than primary procedures. Any discomfort that patients do experience can be alleviated with pain medication and cold compresses.
Q-What sort of recovery is there after revision rhinoplasty? A-The recovery after revision rhinoplasty procedures tends to be a little less involved than after primary procedures with patients experiencing less bruising, swelling and pain. Most bruising will fade within about ten days whereas the swelling may take several months before dissipating. The cast applied to the nose and the stitches are usually removed within about one week after surgery.
