Fat Transfer

Fat transfer, also known as fat injection, is a non-surgical procedure designed to fill in lines, wrinkles, skin depressions and some scars. Fat transfer may also be used to add volume to the lips. During the procedure, fat is removed from an area of the body like the abdomen or hips and is then transferred to the treatment area. Individuals who are looking to add fullness to the lips or improve the appearance of lines, wrinkles, skin depressions or scars may be good candidates for the fat transfer procedure.

Fat transfer typically takes an hour to complete. Under normal conditions, local anesthesia is used on the donor and recipient sites. Using a technique similar to liposuction, Dr. Ahn will remove the fat from the donor area. The fat is then prepared and reinjected into the recipient site. Overfilling is often necessary during the procedure and this may result in a temporary swollen appearance afterward. Some bruising or redness may also occur. Pain or discomfort is generally minimal. The results of fat transfer tend to last years or longer.
