Endoscopic Browlift

As the skin begins to lose its elasticity, the eyebrows become heavy. This is often accompanied by extra skin of the upper eyelids and puffiness of the lower eyelids. Others may say that you look tired, angry, or sad when in fact you feel fine. To see what a brow lift can do for your face, put your hands above your outer eyebrows and gently raise the skin upwards. This is the potential effect of a browlift. To address these concerns Dr. Ahn performs his version of the closed/endoscopic browlift. Very frequently, the upper and lower eyelids also need to be lifted to achieve a complete upper facial rejuvenation. The decision is made during your consultation with Dr. Ahn.

Dr. Ahn performs browlifting through four small incisions behind the hairline, so that they are as discreet as possible. This is in contrast to the traditional technique that requires a large incision across the top of the head, resulting in a long scar and numbness. Dr. Ahn often also uses a telescope (endoscope) to help with the final stages of the surgery. Through the incisions the outer portions of the eyebrows are elevated and kept elevated using the Endotine, a device that is self-dissolving, keeps the brows in the proper elevated position, and has truly allowed for minimally invasive browlifting techniques. This procedure takes between one to two hours to perform. It is most commonly performed under IV sedation (twilight anesthesia).

What to Expect After the Surgery

You will have a certain amount of swelling and bruising in the 10-day period following surgery. As the incisions heal, you may experience some numbness as well as itching, both of which will diminish with time. The clips behind the hairline are usually removed 7-10 days following surgery. For most patients, the recovery time will not exceed two weeks, but patients may still be advised to avoid strenuous activities for longer periods.

A-During a consultation for an endoscopic browlift, Dr. Ahn will discuss the available treatment options as well as the benefits, the expected outcomes and any alternatives. Any questions or concerns that you may have will be addressed and the doctor will take special care to educate you about the endoscopic browlift procedure so that you can make a well-informed decision.
